Factoid: The Arcata Amusement Institution is a newly founded program established through the Ink People Dreamaker Program.  The goal of the AAI is to provide circus and variety entertainment and workshops for the greater Humboldt County Area.  This May we are inviting children from all the schools in the Humboldt County to participate in our Circus Emporium project. The Circus Emporium Project is a multi-faceted educational interactive program for youth ages K-High School.   The initial program will offer a 2 hour 3-part rotating tour/performance, 3 days a week for the month of May 2011.  Our tour areas will be divided into a clown/juggler performance, storyteller/magic performance, and a circus arts workshop area.  This project will give a unique educational experience for the youth in our community and provide jobs for local performers and artists. The Circus Emporium project will be operating out of a unique location at 1047 6th Street in Arcata, appropriately dubbed the Circus Emporium.  This property is owned by Shea FreeLove, local Humboldt County circus performer of ten plus years.  The museum areas of the Emporium are decorated by FreeLove’s extensive collection of circus memorabilia and curiosities.  The cast and crew for the project will be made up of this area’s most talented performers, drawing from various local groups, such as, Humboldt Circus, FreeLove Circus, Dell ‘Arte, MARZ project and many others. After visiting the Circus Emporium clients will have an understanding of performance art, a general demonstration of various circus skills, and how to incorporate the knowledge they learn into their lives in a healthy, fun and beneficial way.  Staff and members working on the project will have an opportunity to develop their performance skills in a professional environment.  This project will be community operated with as much involvement with The Ink People as possible.  We will be seeking grants from local foundations and sponsors to cover the set-up and operating expenses for the project. The long-term effects of the Arcata Amusement Institution will be profoundly positive.  By incorporating the administrative and technical assistance that The Ink People offer, this project will encourage cross-generational community building.  What happens when the 20-year-olds in our community inspire the 7-year-olds?  They both win in a way that can only better our collective future!
Quote:Circus Emporium Story It all started on an afternoon hike through the Arcata Community Forest where Intercontinental Super Clown Shea experienced his first Bigfoot sighting, “I saw a large hairy man foraging through the underbrush,” he said.  Shea rushed to open the camera application on his mobile phone, but to his dismay, the large hairy man disappeared before the software could load.  Since then, Shea has been on a mission to create an interactive experience for the community.  “I have been curious about the curious for a really long time” quotes FreeLove. FreeLove recently founded the Arcata Amusement Institution a non-profit DreamMaker project through the Ink People.  This project will make use of the FreeLove property at 1047 6th in Arcata, where he will be displaying a decade of circus memorabilia, collectibles and curiosities, appropriately dubbed the Circus Emporium.  Offering tours and participatory activities are only the beginning of what this circus funhouse will offer.  Unfortunately, the opening of the Circus Emporium will have to be pushed to May 1st due to unforeseen circumstances. In remodeling the property, FreeLove found that there is a low lying aquifer underneath the surrounding grounds.  While digging out an area for landscaping, FreeLove made a remarkable archeological discovery!  The remains of the legendary Ouroboros!  FreeLove immediately began archeological evacuations of the backyard unearthing lists of mysterious items; bat boy, feejee mermaid, raptor eggs, and even Bigfoot tracks were seen on the site, he must have come by to see the action... Further excavation in the front yard revealed a still to be classified but dangerous ancient-looking device/machine covered in runes/hieroglyphs.  When two clowns landed a misguided club on a fragile and expensive looking point on the structure, green and purple smoke and gasses immediately started pouring from the small crack.  An upside-down hot tub has subdued the gas emission levels, but a permanent solution has yet to be found… “It’s gotta be top rung for me,” FreeLove, when speaking on curiosities.  The Circus Emporium will open as scheduled on May 1 if all goes according to plan.  Bigfoot looms as a guardian angel and a silent inspiration for FreeLove, see more adventures at On the Trail of Bigfoot on facebook.  For more info on Shea FreeLove and FreeLove Circus go to www.freelovecircus.com
